Why We Founded VitalStrata

Risk adjustment for Medicare Advantage is at an inflection point. MAOs face rising clinical complexity, larger volumes of unstructured data, and increasing regulatory scrutiny — all while operating under tight operational timelines. Traditional manual coding workflows and generic NLP tools are insufficient in capturing the full picture of an MAO's member population health with high-precision.

We founded VitalStrata to supercharge MAOs with their retrospective and prospective risk adjustment operations. Our belief is simple: MAOs need a platform capable of understanding longitudinal clinical context, detecting subtle prospective signals, and generating audit-defensible evidence — all with the accuracy, scalability, and transparency modern operations demand.

Announcing Our Pre-Seed Round

We’re proud to share that VitalStrata has raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding from an exceptional group of investors, including Y Combinator, Kleiner Perkins, and Global Founders Capital, among others.

This investment strengthens our ability to build deeply technical infrastructure for MA risk adjustment — and to accelerate the development of a platform purpose-built for the growing demands of MAOs.

What We’re Building

At VitalStrata, we are building RAF Precision AI, an end-to-end AI platform engineered for both retrospective and prospective risk adjustment. Our approach is rooted in three core technical pillars:

1. Longitudinal Chart Ingestion

RAF Precision AI processes multi-year clinical documentation, enabling richer context and more reliable coding decisions compared to episodic or single-document approaches.

2. Complex Prospective Signal Detection

Built on top of the longitudinal chart ingestion capabilities, RAF Precision AI identifies subtle, multi-factor clinical signals that can inform care interventions and capture member risk earlier — going beyond simple suspecting heuristics.

3. Best-in-Class Coding Accuracy with Audit-Ready Evidence

Every identified code is paired with MEAT-based, audit-defensible evidence generation, designed to support compliance and withstand increasing regulatory scrutiny.

Together, these capabilities form a unified risk adjustment engine designed to elevate accuracy, operational efficiency, and financial performance for MAOs.
